I took the terrarium class today.
I can’t stop thinking about making these darn things!
We were each provided a work station armed with a glass vessel (about 24” tall!), small stones, charcoal, sphagnum moss, soil and $12 worth of plants, our choice. We were allowed to go over the $12 mark, of course, but we were responsible for covering any extra cost.
I loved the freedom of...
freeeeeee!
The author of one of my most favorite blogs, The Oak Leaves, and the artist behind one of my most favorite Etsy shops (of the same name) is having a little giveaway on her blog. I LOVE these, so after losing the last giveaway (I was so bummed!), I’m trying again. Wish me luck!

My mom gifted me an egg carton filled with little baby cacti yesterday!
I had purchased this vintage muffin tin from littlebyrdvintage well over a year ago with the intention of using it for tea lights, but having candles in a house with dogs is proving to be rather difficult. SO, cacti it is. Hopefully they’ll make it.
I signed up for the terrarium class at Faddegon’s this...
Looky what came in the mail!
Can you tell I’m excited?
Maybe a little too excited.
This winter exhausts me.
I needed to be in the presence of a little bit of life, a little bit of green.
So, I dragged Mike to Faddegon’s, one of my most favorite summer haunts, to see what their greenhouse had to offer. We just missed the orchid show but we were there in time to find out about a terrarium class they’re offering on the 26th. Anyone want to take it...
When Mike says, “Hey, come in here and hold this ball for me”, I never know what to expect. In this case, the results were lovely.
We’re still using the refrigerator that was in this house when we bought it. It’s ancient. Knowing that this thing may die at any moment fills me with a tremendous sense of dread, but it also gets those gears grinding in my brain and I started thinking about those amazing retro fridges I’ve been drooling over for the last few years. Chances are, we won’t be purchasing one...
don’t. waste. your. time.
If this ending is honestly supposed to be “shocking”, there’s absolutely no hope for good movies anywhere in the near future. Awful. I still think Facebook blows, but it’s questionable whether it blows more than this movie.

I’m so in love with her work. It’s amazing what this woman can do with some paper and a needle and thread.
For more, and for her copper pipe sculpture, go here.
Someone thought they’d have some fun and decided to send us Parents magazine. If it’s you, and you have the power to take it back, please do. This isn’t funny anymore.
I’m such a sucker for tragic love stories.
I remember my aunt Nancy telling me years ago that this movie was one of her favorites, but I had never seen it. Until today.
This. Was. Fantastic! I may have to break my own rule and read the book AFTER seeing the movie. Imagine that.
Christopher Reeve was such an amazing actor. Simply wow.
there are little signs of spring all around us.
the weather folk were joking on the news yesterday, basically mocking the people (i.e. me) who get excited at the sight of a robin in the yard this early in the year. I realize this is an old wives’ tale and essentially means nothing scientifically, but at least it brings a reminder of what’s to come, and I’m okay with that. ...
I’m so in love with the tiny home phenomenon that’s sweeping across the country! So you can imagine my delight when I woke up this morning only to find that MSN had done a story about what else? Tiny Homes.
According to MSN:
Small homes fall into at least two categories: “small” and “tiny.” “Tiny” (or “micro” or...

So, it’s winter time in the northeast, a place you’d expect lots of snow and sub-zero temps at this time of year. We were blessed (blessed? hello, global warming!) with warmer temps and very little snow over the last four winters, but this winter…ooh, this winter…has other plans for us. Snow, and lots of it. I find myself fantasizing about green grass, walking...
She would live in the snow if we let her.
Many thanks to Mike for the photos.
meyer lemons, persimmons, chayote squash
I’m the kind of girl who prefers a bottle of good vanilla extract over a diamond ring.
I prefer the card over the gift.
In this case I took the meyer lemons over a bouquet of tulips.
I spent a good solid twenty minutes oogling these little gems at the local market (they’re hard to come by in these parts, especially in the dead of...
