I’m frustrated. This is a simple pet peeve of mine that never gets old and I never seem to be able to look past it. If you’re going to paint something, especially something super porous and difficult to clean like brick, please take your time and don’t do what this schmuck did.  There is white paint dripped and smudged all over the brick where the last guy “touched...

Thanks for the outdoor curtain comments yesterday, folks!  I think I might go for it.  I’ve read in several places that using a simple painter’s drop cloth is a perfect substitute for outdoor curtain panels.  They’re inexpensive, durable, washable, and because they’re comprised entirely of 100% cotton, they’re totally dye-able.  Customized curtains, anyone?  I...

The vet tech basically told me to chill out this morning when I called to inquire about Olive’s tick bite.  He’s going to see her in two weeks anyway, so I’ll keep an eye on the spot for now and I can talk to him about it when I see him.  I worry about Olive’s health in general, so while it may seem like I’m freaking out for no reason, I’m genuinely concerned. ...

Just found a MASSIVE, engorged tick on my poor Ollie-Poo’s neck.  I am freaking out! We got most of it out, but I think the head is still in there.  Will call the vet first thing in the morning.  Ugh.  Someone please calm me down.

I can’t get this song out of my head.  These guys are great, and I highly recommend this album.  Very Pixies/Fugazi/Jawbox, but you know, in a good way. By the way, Happy Easter!

So after a rather lazy few days last weekend, I’ve forced myself back into “spring mode” wherein I actually DO the things on the seasonal to-do list instead of just fantasizing about it.  I have chores and projects both big and small on it and I’m working on trying to chip away at it little by little.  The order in which this list is being worked on is entirely random,...

Hear ye, hear ye!  This is nothing more than an announcement for my old customers and friends who used to indulge in the $10 earring extravaganza at The Paper Sparrow, and those of you who have been nagging me about where you can buy the earrings ever since I sold the shop.  It took a lot of convincing (and maybe a little begging too) of the shops in the downtown area to start selling our...

Dude, I think Ben’s gonna be hatin’ Helloyarn for planting this seed, but because of her recent Flickr upload, I am deeply and totally head over heels in love with these shoes.  They come in two color palettes (the one above and this one here),   but I love the Red Multi Leather combo best.  Like, loooooove.  Yep.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!  That’s all I can think of to say about this.  Well, that and HOLYSHITHOLYSHITHOLYSHITHOLYSHITHOLYSHIT!  I’ve been waiting a looooooong time for this.

I was sick yesterday and had the opportunity to spend some time on the couch.  So, for the first time ever, I watched Gone With the Wind.  Aaaaaaaand, I don’t get what all the fuss is about.  I realize that for its time this movie was way over the top, influential in lots of ways, and fodder for an instant classic.  But I found myself wishing I’d fall asleep.  I was bored.  Is it...

Yesterday Ben and I headed down to one of the many funeral homes in our town to say goodbye and pay our respects to our next door neighbor Joe. Since the day we met Joe, shortly after we bought our home, we both immediately found ourselves loving and deeply respecting him.  I’ve said it over and over again, but he was just such a cool guy.  Weird that “cool” is the best word I...

Again, born in the wrong era. “Being born is going blind and bowing down a thousand times.”

I was born in the wrong era.  I was three when this show happened.  Booooo.

The dessert portion of tonight’s feast: Mike’s double brownie mint cookie extravaganza, or as he so eloquently refers to them, Brown Eyes with Asshopper Cookies.  Yes. But first, my mega meat lasagna with homemade garlic/cheese/basil pull-apart bread.  I love cooking for lots of people, and I’m thrilled to have several hungry man-beasts in my life to feed my concoctions to. ...
