I learned a few things over the last couple of days…
* Though I thought I disliked walnuts, or, rather, I wasn’t very fond of walnuts, I learned that if you candy them in maple syrup, sugar, vanilla, butter and cinnamon, they’re damn good. Add them generously into a batch of maple ice cream and they truly rock.
* I learned that I really, really love making...
Dogs, playing.

We celebrated the 5th birthday of one of my most favoritest boys in the world today, my cousin’s son, Ryan. This little man had such an awful time coming into this world and the complications during his birth could easily have taken his life. He’s a tough kid, though, and he pulled through. I don’t think there’s a single soul out there who knows him who isn’t...
I’m on an ice cream mission.
I’m sorry for talking about food so much these days, but with winter still holding us in its clutches for a few more weeks, I’m running out of indoor things to do. And, with all of this crazy, frantic, learning-how-to-make-the-best-ice-cream-I-possibly-can hoopla these days (I’ve been making a disturbing amount of ice cream), I’m...
I woke up this morning and made scones for the one person who loves them the most…Aunt Sandy! Today is her birthday, and while she doesn’t like to make a big deal out of this day, I like to do a bit of baking in honor of her. SO, after giving her the choice of literally anything she wanted, she opted, yet again, for scones. She prefers traditional currant scones, but I...
I bought myself a present.
For a whopping three smackers, I was able to make four bouquets. Three in my house and one for my mom.
A little bit of spring to brighten up the house.
Good deal, eh?
Finally finished watching Angry Boys and I miss it already. I adore Chris Lilley, Summer Heights High and We Can Be Heroes, and I’m adding Angry Boys to my favorites list. Amazing, painfully hilarious, and even a little bit sad at times. The scenes with Gran at the end of the show made me tear up, and I was bawling by the final scene. I highly recommend it.
(Warning: If you’re...
It would have been extremely painless to go out and buy something for Mike’s birthday gift as he’s one of the easiest people to shop for. I should thank him for that. Yet, any store bought gift just wouldn’t do. I thought about it and thought about it, and despite the fact that I made him that white chocolate bread pudding instead of a cake, I decided to whip up something...
White chocolate bread pudding.
For a certain birthday boy.
Heh, I guess I should have assumed that political tyrants and mass murderers have a lovey-dovey side like the rest of us, but it just seems so weird. CNN posted this article about several historical tyrants’ romantic letters to women.
For instance:
Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler spoke of Eva Braun, to whom he was married for just 40 hours, in direct language. He called her “calm,...
Happy Valentines Day, Ya’ll!
We don’t do a whole lot of celebrating around these parts. Cards, snuggles, dinner. That’s it. No overpriced gifts, no half-dead cut flowers, no candy, no blood diamonds. We don’t even go out for dinner because people are nuts, places are nuts, and neither of us is nuts enough to go for it. SO, I’m cooking steaks with truffle...
Please keep your fingers crossed for us today. I’m bringing Olive in to see the vet to talk about possible hip or back problems, and if we’re lucky we’ll find out that there’s a simple fix via medication. She’s been crying a lot when she gets up after sleeping for a while, and what started out as a groan has turned into a whimper. I can’t stand it anymore....
Homophobic AND sexist! Hooray!!!
Rick Santorum on putting women on the front lines in combat:
“When you have men and women together in combat, I think men have emotions when you see a woman in harm’s way,’’ Santorum told TODAY’s Ann Curry Friday. “I think it’s something that’s natural that’s very much in our culture to be protective. That was my concern, and I think that’s a concern with all...
Folks, I aced every single one of my competency tests for the online class I’m going to be starting at the end of this month. I had to take two computer knowledge tests (Windows and computer basics…both were cake walks), one grammar test (slightly harder…I can’t believe I had forgotten what an adverb was. Had to scrape the back of my brain for that one), and a typing...
Well look at you, Washington! This is turning out to be a good week!
Want, want, super want! I had a few minutes to browse through this one at Barnes and Noble yesterday and it looks really fantastic. Cinnamon Toast ice cream? Yes, please!
I always thought the pot episode of Roseanne was the best. This never gets old.
Well look at you, California!
Oh, Lhasa…
My heart aches when I hear that voice.
This weekend was a total blur. I:
* Couldn’t possibly have cared less about that damn football game, Madonna’s performance, the commercials, or any of the meathead hoopla surrounding it. Instead I spent the afternoon gorging myself on party food and playing LCR with the fam.
* Had one of my biggest ice cream making struggles to date. Normally the process is rather easy but this...
Guess who’s comin’ back ‘round again???
I already I have my tickets pre-ordered for another Archers of Loaf tour.
Can’t. Friggin’. Wait.
New dates are being released within the next few days and I highly recommend seeing them live at least once before you die. This may very well be your last chance.
For realz.
It’s worth it.
I swear to you…
…one day, I will conquer the world with my ice cream…
…and there will be peace across the planet.
Heh.
