I never really paid much attention to the story of the Hatfields and McCoys, but something about this History Channel miniseries really has me engaged.  The third and final installment airs tonight, but they’ve been replaying parts one and two regularly.  If you haven’t seen it yet, I recommend it.  Good stuff.  Besides, I love me some Bill Paxton.

I cracked this puppy out over the course of the weekend (in between yard and garden projects) and haven’t been able to put it down.  Amazing stories, incredible recipes that frankly I can’t wait to test out.  Give this book a shot for sure.  Easy read, but quite fulfilling.

Can we talk about peonies for a second? First of all, I just want to say for the record that the color in these photos was not altered in the slightest bit, and yet these shots, though they show a vivid pink flower, certainly do not capture the vibrancy of my peonies this year.  They’re glowing at the end of my driveway, a wonderful shade of neon. No lie, I’ve had people actually...

I cannot get enough of this show.  Period. I start getting all twitchy and stuff right around Friday or so because I know Sunday night is right around the corner. Yes. It’s that good.

Did I ever tell you about the little trip Kate and I took to the nuns’ convent last year?  I can’t remember posting anything about it, but there’s a photo summary in my Flickr archives.  If you’re interested, go here.  It was an amazing trip, though a sad one because the doors were closing on these gorgeous grounds and will remain that way until, A) someone buys the land...

With Memorial Day weekend right around the corner, it’s officially time to start planting the garden.  I’ve decided to grow up a little bit, and instead of taking insane risks and planting whenever I feel like it (it wouldn’t be unheard of for snow to still fall today in the northeast), I’m going to garden like a responsible adult (stop snickering) and hold off until...

In my ongoing obsession with finding projects on Pinterest to make for my house, we selected and finished another over the course of this past weekend, and I’m quite pleased.  I present to you, the pallet table.  Original plans found here. Folks, it’s nothing fancy, nothing jaw-dropping, and certainly nothing that looks expensive.  But it’s functional, it’s big enough...

Happy belated Mother’s Day to you! As you know, I don’t have human kids…just dog kids.  But that doesn’t mean I don’t get Mother’s Day presents from them, and it certainly doesn’t mean that Ben doesn’t get Father’s Day gifts from them either.  Ben will casually mention something that he desires and I’ll stash it away in the back of my...

Driving about a half-hour north today to hit up a plant sale I found out about on Craigslist.  This is the perfect opportunity to clear my head, rest my brain and load up on the plants that will give me the shade garden I’ve been dreaming of since we bought this property.  Hope today is a peaceful one for all of you.

I swore I wouldn’t do it, but I joined Pinterest.   And I’m kind of glad I did, if only because I had a LOT of time on my hands over the last two weeks where I was just sitting around and waiting.  This really saved my sanity and inspired me on more than one occasion.  Some sweet things there and quite a few ideas I’m definitely going to try out.  Find me here.

Thanks to all of you for the kind words, for checking in, for offering to help out, and for just being there.  My mom is home and resting, thankfully, and getting stronger by the day.  I’m thankful to be away from the hospital, so I know for sure that my mom is too. In other news, I had officially planned to quit smoking on the 28th of April, the day my mom fell ill, and I can’t...

Sorry for the lack of posts.  My mom suffered what we thought was an aneurysm on Saturday night.  After lots of testing and finally an angiogram, the doctors think she has what is called a Subarachnoid hemorrhage, which is essentially a form of stroke.  Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.  We need all the help we can get.  Thanks.
