I had the brilliant idea of trying to make one of these wreaths for a friend after seeing this tutorial a day or two ago. Looks cool, right? I headed out today to get the supplies and was bummed when I could only find silver tacks, not gold. But, I thought I’d make one in silver, see how I liked it, see if the process made me so fucking mental that I’d never make it through a second one in gold, and, if I could stand it, then go about searching around for gold tacks. I bought 450 silver tacks and this is how far I got. Guess I’m going back out on another supply run. This thing is HEAVY, but I really like how it’s turning out. I think the recipient of the final product will too.
:::if you’re planning to make one of these, I highly recommend going with a different type of wreath form. I bought this one because it was the only variety in stock that came in the flat-backed option. The material is flimsy and very porous, and I’m finding that I have to glue some of the tacks in place. Hopefully it will be able to stand up to the weight of all the tacks once I’m finished. Fingers crossed! I’m absolutely not starting over if this thing caves.:::
